The Decorating for Homeschooling
Now, let's do some decorating for homeschooling! Take your basic room: four walls, maybe a window or two, a door and possibly a closet if you're lucky. From here we want to make a room that is both conducive to learning yet very comfortable and safe for children to learn in. As we are decorating for homeschooling, the key ideal is to immerse your students in a stimulus rich learning environment. Surround them with things they will want to explore, study and ask questions about! Make it part of the adventure!
Standard classroom teachers are taught how to make beautiful bulletin boards, string art work from lights and have posters all around. A little common sense can go a long way! Here are some points to remember:* is it something my students need to see over and over again in the learning process? Hang it on the wall, a bathroom mirror, or the refrigerator! Some where they will look several times a day. * displaying the students work for others to see and praise, is more important than the priceless painting. * make the environment user friendly. Can they curl up to read a book? Is the table clear for them to have the paints out? * will your
learning/teaching style
be complemented by your surroundings of choice? Remember: you DON'T need to spend money on an interior decorator!
Here are a few pieces of furniture that you may want to find used or otherwise:* bookshelf * desk or table * good fitting chair for student * dresser-type container to hold supplies * chalkboard or white board comes in very handy but scrap paper often works well too! Bonus items: * bulletin board * a current map of the world * computer setup * pencil sharpener that can be fastened down
